Registered Specialist Orthodontist
Orthodontics is a very rewarding profession as it is great to be able to help people to have a great smile.
Following graduating from Dunedin’s Otago University with my Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree, I practised as a dentist in New Plymouth. In 1973 I returned to Otago University as a lecturer and also completed my specialty training in Orthodontics, graduating with my Masters of Dental Surgery (Orthodontics) in 1975.
I started my specialty orthodontic practice in Whangarei in 1976 and have been here ever since. In addition to my private orthodontic practice I was also the Hospital Orthodontist retiring from that position in 2009. I also have branch practices in Kaitaia, and Kerikeri.
I have been actively involved with the NZ Association of Orthodontists being a Committee member for over 10 years and its President from 1997-9. I am also an international member of the American Association of Orthodontists and a Fellow of the World Federation of Orthodontists.
I have a strong interest in Evidence Based Treatments and Quality Orthodontic Care and have lectured in NZ and overseas.
When not at Northland Orthodontics, my wife and I run Highcliff Farm, our beef rearing and fattening farm (260Ha), Someview Avocado Orchard (1800 trees) and lose money breeding Alpacas (anyone want any!!)
There is a saying, “quality in, quality out”. That is very applicable to orthodontics. If quality results are to be consistently achieved there is no substitution for the very best training and experience. That, like cheese, doesn’t happen over a weekend, it takes time.
