A fantastic smile and straight teeth is one of the most important assets you possess. It is therefore vital you put your trust in the hands of professionals with the training, knowledge and experience to ensure you receive the best aesthetic, functional and stable treatment result. Although dentists receive a limited amount of training in orthodontics, an orthodontist has undertaken an additional 2-3 years of university orthodontic training. This gives them the in-depth knowledge to accurately diagnose and offer a comprehensive range of treatment options.
Drs Moore and Dalley are Northland’s only registered orthodontists.
In Northland we have some dentists who have undertaken short orthodontic courses (generally 2 DAYS) who then offer orthodontic treatments. It is not possible in 2 days to get an understanding of orthodontic diagnosis or treatment.
Because their knowledge is so limited these dentists have to send your records to someone else, possibly in USA, Mexico or China, to decide what the problems are and to make the treatment decisions for them. That is not good enough. You deserve to have your treatment decisions made by you and your orthodontist not some unknown person.
To recommend the right treatment for you.
There are a lot of treatment options including plates, clear aligners or modern braces. They each have their uses, but only an orthodontist has the specialised knowledge to identify and plan for all the variables in your mouth. Orthodontists have knowledge of the full range of orthodontic appliance “tools.” They know what to use and when to use it because they work with these tools every day.
To address the big picture.
You may only see six crooked front teeth. The orthodontist, using their training, experience and expertise can discover the cause of your orthodontic problem. Armed with a diagnosis that takes all factors into account, the orthodontists can plan your solution—one that delivers a healthy, attractive smile and a lasting result.
